I am a victim of Chinese Drywall.
I find it incredibly frustrating that our situation has received so little attention from our elected officials. It is a fraction of the problem the oil spill represents and should be that much easier to address.
In the oil spill news Vice President Joe Biden was quoted as saying “There’s no shakedown. It’s insisting on responsible conduct and a responsible response to something they caused”. This quote was in response to the Texas senator accusing the president of “shaking down” an international company for money to fix a problem they caused. Apparently the president can take on a company from the U.K. but not a company from China (Knauf-Tianjin).
Why is it so difficult for our leaders to insist that Knauf establish a fund to correct the problem? As it stands, the manufacturer collected their money from the sale, the suppliers collected their money from the sale, the builders collected their money from the home sale, the general contractors collected their money from the construction, the realtors collected their money from the sale, the homeowner insurance companies collected money to insure the property against everything other than Chinese Drywall and the mortgage company is still insistent on collecting/accruing their money from the sale. The only group of people being held accountable for this mess are the homeowners. That is a SHAKEDOWN if I’ve ever heard of one.
Why is it that the homeowner is being forced to sue for damages while all of the other participants to the transaction can take their money and run?
This is destroying the American Dream for many families.
